Methods in Training and Coaching

Method Quartet:

01. Enjoyment & Impact – Thiagi

The Indian-American learning designer Dr. Sivasailam “Thiagi” Thiagarajan is considered a master of interactive pedagogy. His games, learning activities, and micro-interventions (Jolts) are short, surprising, and impactful (approx. 3,500 documented activities!). They turn participants into active creators rather than passive consumers. This makes learning easy, tangible, and directly applicable to everyday life.

02. Sustainability – Transfer Strength (Axel Koch)

Learning does not yet mean implementation. This is precisely where the Transfer Strength Method according to Axel Koch comes in. It strengthens four factors that determine the success of implementation: openness, personal responsibility, relapse management, and positive self-talk. In this way, training impulses give rise to lasting changes that have an impact—even under the pressures of everyday life.

03. Depth & Meaning – 1st–3rd Generation Coaching (Stelter)

Today, coaching is more than just goal-setting and problem-solving (First and Second Generation Coaching). Third Generation Coaching according to Reinhard Stelter focuses on dialogue, resonance, and creating meaning. Through reflective conversations, clients develop a new perspective on themselves and their role. This fosters clarity, orientation, and self-efficacy.

04. Blended Learning – Digital Learning Platform (Blink.it)

The digital learning platform connects training and coaching sessions with participants’ daily lives. Content is prepared and reviewed, materials remain accessible, and prompts for reflection support the transfer of learning into practice. Participants can share experiences, ask questions, and document their next steps. This creates a continuous learning process—not only during the training but also afterward.

Together, these four approaches form a methodological quartet that addresses Pestalozzi’s head, heart, and hand:

  • Interactive (Thiagi)
  • Effective (transfer strength)
  • Comprehensive (1st–3rd generation coaching)
  • Sustainable (digital learning platform)

In this way, training, coaching, and facilitation are not only experienced but also lived.
